2009-12-18 Canada to take on Afghanistan, Ireland and Sri Lanka 'A' in Sri Lanka   Canada will take on Sri Lanka 'A", Afghanistan and Ireland in T20 matches in the lead up to the T20 Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be held in February in Dubai.   The matches will be played at Sinhalese Sports Club and the P. Saravanamuttu stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Saravanamuttu stadium served as Canada's training base earlier this year prior to the successful ICC World Cup Qualifier bid in South Africa. Canada will open the 4 nation tournament January against Afghanistan, followed by matches February 2 against  Ireland (T20) and February 3 against Sri Lanka 'A'. A tournament final will be played February 4th.   Canada has also arranged two further matches against Sri Lanka 'A' on January 24 and January 26th.   Coach Pubudu Dassanayake sees the matches as ideal preparation for the T20 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Dubai.."...we obviously did well after our last trip to Sri Lanka and we are looking at these matches to build our momentum into the qualifier..."   Canada leaves for Sri Lanka to begin training on January 8

ICC Announces Schedule for 2010 T20 CWCQ

 

Canada has drawn the Netherlands in the opener of the 2010 T20 Cricket World Cup in the UAE. The match will take place at Dubai Sports City on February 9, 2010 at 1330 local time. Canada's second match will be the following morning aginst Kenya before closing out the first round on February 11 against hosts UAE. The super 4 round will be played entirely on February 12th with the finals slated for February 13th. Two venues will be used for the event, the Dubai International stadium at Dubai Sports City as well as the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.    Canada's preparation for the event will steadily ramp up through the first part of the year. The team will leave for Sri Lanka on January 6th for a pre tournament training camp followed by some warm up T20 matches in both Sri Lanka and Dubai prior to the tournament. More

Canada warmed up for the upcoming T20 Quad series with a D/L loss to Afghanistan on Sunday. Chasing 182, Canada's chase was halted by rain at 96/2 in 12 overs. Rizwan Cheema highlighted Canada's chase with 39 off 25 balls including two towering sixes that left the stadium. Canada hits the ground running on Monday morning (sunday night in Canada) against Sri Lanka 'A' in the first match of the T20 Four Nations tournament. There are limited ticket packages still available for the T20 4 Nations Series starting in Sri Lanka on Sunday Night. For the first time ever Canadian Cricket fans will be able to watch the play live online on PPV. Mohammed Shaikh, president of the countries largest league, the T&DCA, was excited about the upcoming games and was pleased that the local clubs were the leaders in purchasing packages.
