	2010-09-04 Ireland defeat Canada - 6 wicket win for the visitors Ireland have defeated Canada by 6 wickets on the final day of the intercontinental cup match at Toronto Cricket Club. Despite Canada's heroic recoveries on day 2 and 3, the Irish were able to withstand Canada's push and some interference from mother nature to win the match in the final session of the day. 	2010-09-03 Cricket Canada Summer Festival Cricket Canada has partnered with the West Indies Cricket Board and Cricket Bermuda to bring the Cricket Canada Summer Festival to Mississauga, Ontario this month. The Festival runs from Wednesday September 8, 2010 to Friday September 17, 2010 at Malton Cricket Club. Canada, West Indies High Performance Centre Squad, and Bermuda will clash in T20 and 50 over cricket action. These will be Canada's last home matches of the season prior to participating in the 2011 Cricket World Cup in South Asia in February 2011. [More]
	2010-09-02 Canada vs Ireland - Day 3 Its was a case of SURVIVOR - Toronto this morning as Canada resumed on 190-8 with a slim lead of 49 runs as they hoped to pull the rabbit out of the hat against the Irish. Bagai (76*) and Chohan (33*) fought through the session adding 81 runs and pushing Canada's lead to 130. Canada resumed after lunch at 271-8 led by Bagai (90) and Chohan (59) pulled Canada to 316-10. In reply Ireland are 124-4 with White (21) and Mooney (2*) at the crease at the close of play. Ireland need 52 runs with 6 wickets in hand to win this game outright. 	2010-09-01 Canada vs. Ireland - Day 2 Canadian pride was on the line this morning and the team responded in spades through two sessions today. Henry Osinde started the fight back picking up his 3rd, 4th and 5th wickets of the day as Ireland only added 71 runs for the loss of 5 wickets (Johnston retired hurt did not return). Canada's batsmen then continued to carry the fight to the Irish adding 89-1 as Nitish Kumar (20) and Ruvindu Gunasekara (31*) gave Canada a solid platform to build from. Zubin Surkari followed with a gallant 72 for Canada and the the Irish lead was finally overtaken. From there it was all downhill for Canada from 151-3 they collapsed to 190-8 at the end of the day essentially negating the advantage from earlier. 	2010-08-31 Canada vs Ireland - Day 1 Ireland Claim First Innings Points Canada looked to end a dissapointing Intercontinental Cup campaign when they took on Ireland Tuesday at the Toronto Cricket Club. Canada has one draw in the ICUP so far this season and have suffered losses to Scotland, Kenya, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe XI. Ireland were looking to play their way into the final after a somewhat sluggish start, they need to win out both games remaining to have a chance to make it in. Canada won the toss and elected to bat first and immediately fell into trouble losing both opening batsmen. As has become the pattern in 4 Day cricket, the loss of early wickets was stayed briefly by a fruitful partnership, this time between Zubin Surkari and Ashish Bagai. Both players looked to have little trouble with the Irish bowling before losing their way. A Trent Johnston triple strike pegged back Canada after an agressive start as Ireland bowled in the right areas and took control of the match. At lunch Canada were 95-7 and finished at 120 all out. 	2010-08-30 Nova Scotia Wins Maritime T20 Four teams (New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nova Scotia) played a total of six games over two days in Fredericton. The tournament started with home team (Cricket New Brunswick) playing against Newfoundland. Newfoundland scored 61 runs in 16.5 overs. CNB scored the runs in 9 overs winning the game by 8 wickets. Next visitors PEI played against Nova Scotia with Nova Scotia winning the game by 7 wickets. The last game on Saturday was played between Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Hard hitting batsman Amit Joshi scored 80 quick runs which allowed Nova Scotia reach a total of 186 in 20 overs. New Brunswick began the chase well with Rich Woollin (28) but lost their way against tight bowling from Nova Scotia. In the end New Brunswick scored 119 in their allotted 20 overs losing the game by 67 runs. Sunday morning saw a delayed start due to wet ground conditions. PEI played Newfoundland scoring 92 in 13 overs. Rakesh Negi from Newfoundland took a hat-trick dismissing 3 PEI batsmen in consecutive deliveries. Newfoundland lost the game by 40 runs. The last two games were PEI vs New Brunswick and Nova Scotia vs Newfoundland. New Brunswick won the game by 7 wickets chasing a score of 91 while Nova Scotia defeated Newfoundland by 9 wickets chasing a score of 38. With three wins from three games NSCA were crowned champions. Hari from Nova Scotia received the Player of the tournament award, while Amit Joshi (NS) and Rohan Bhandekar (NB) received the best batsman and best bowler awards respectively.

	2010-08-21 THE MAPLE LEAF AGAINST THE SHAMROCK IN CRICKET'S TRANSATLANTIC SHOWDOWN Canada's national cricketers will take on Ireland in a series of international matches taking place at the Toronto Cricket Club this week. Two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) will be contested over the weekend of September 6-7, following the 4-day Intercontinental Cup match, which runs from August 31-September 3. The duel between the countries, who have enjoyed a healthy rivalry over the years as two of the top teams from the sport's second tier of competition, will be the last time they meet before heading to the 2011 World Cup in India next February. Canada, ranked 14th in the world, four places behind Ireland, will be boosted by the presence of its all-time leading run scorer and most capped player, Ashish Bagai, and the return of top-order batsman Zubin Surkari who has recovered from a hamstring injury. Bagai, who over the last twelve months has averaged a highly impressive 52 runs per innings despite a long-standing knee injury, was recently recognized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) with a nomination for Associate Countries World Player of the Year. By contrast, Ireland announced on Saturday that they will be traveling without several key players, including all-rounder Alex Cusack and wicketkeeper Niall O'Brian. The biggest blow for the Irish comes from the absence of arguably their top batsman and most threatening strike bowler, William Porterfield and Boyd Rankin respectively. Both have been retained by their English county championship sides, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire. Gary Wilson, who plays for English county side Surrey, will also miss the Intercontinental Cup match, but has been released for the ODI matches. Trent Johnston will captain the side. 	2010-08-19 2011 WCUP PREVIEW - UB Excited by Challenge Canada star Umar Bhatti has revealed that he can't wait to experience the excitement of playing in an ICC Cricket World Cup in South East Asia. Bhatti's side will begin its campaign in Hambantota six months today, on 20 February 2011, against hosts Sri Lanka and the 26-year-old is looking forward to the challenge. 	2010-08-18 Bagai Nominated for Top Award Canada's captain, Ashish Bagai has been nominated for the ICC Affiliate/Associate Player of the year award. Despite being hobbled by a knee injury for much of the year, Bagai has been stellar for Canada in T20 and ODI cricket scoring a healthy 576 runs in 13 innings at a healthy 52.36, which is well above his career averages. The flooding has displaced over 14 million people and the potential for this disaster to escalate is serious. 	2010-08-11 Queens University Cricket Queens University Cricket has been granted official team status at Queen's University. One of Canada's most prestigious educational institutions, Queen's joins rival university McGill who recently were granted official team status by the Montreal school. University Cricket has been on the rise in Canada in the past year and Cricket Canada has been proud to foster and support this growth. 2010 started off very well when York University won the American College Cricket Championship held in March in Florida. This October, Cricket Canada and the Quebec Cricket Federation are proud to partner with the schools to help renew one of Canada's oldest sporting rivalries as McGill University will host Queen's University in Montreal, starting a new era in the rivalry between these two schools.
	2010-08-07 Fun in the Sun Day Cricket Nova Scotia had a Fun in the Sun day Thursday as part of the Cricket Canada KIDS program. Colchester county played host to the event which featured several children and school administrators from the area. The children were given instruction in batting and bowling before playing a few games to practice their skills.
	2010-08-06 Cricket Comes To McGill University McGill University has granted official status to its Cricket Team this week making the University one of a handful of Canadian Universities to have an official cricket team. Cricket Canada is proud to support University Cricket across Canada and is actively pursuing options with the school teams to help raise the profile of the games. Earlier this year, York University in Toronto participated in the American College Cricket Championship for the first time and won the event in fine style to claim their position as North America's top University Team. The Quebec Cricket Federation has been working diligently with area universities to help promote the game and this is the start of what is expected to be a new age in Canadian cricket. Next up for McGill will be a match with players from rival Concordia University next weekend in Montreal.
	2010-08-04 Zimababwe Roll to Easy Win Zimbabwe has soundly beaten Canada by an innings and 73 runs in their Intercontinental Cup clash at Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City. Resuming on 49/3 after Zimbabwe ammassed 351 built on Craig Ervine's 177 runs, Canada struggled again to build batting partnerships losing wickets routinely and soon crumbled to from 74-3 to 74-7 effectively ending any chance to save the match. Hamza Tariq (39) made a valliant attempt to make the Zimbabwean's bat again refusing to go down fighting but was last man out. Umar Bhatti (6-98) was Canada's top bowler in this match withi his outstading performance in a losing cause for the Canadians. Canada now have 3 weeks off to rest and recover after a busy period of cricket finally comes to an end. 	2010-08-03 Canada vs. Zimbabwe XI Day 2 Canada struggled to post a competitive total in the first day of the Intercontinental Cup match against Zimbabwe XI on Monday. Losing the toss and being sent in, Canada got off to a rollicking start with Hiral Patel (32) leading the way but from there it was all down hill as the batsmen could not get any starts going. Rizwan Cheema (39*) struck some hefty blows but the skipper had nobody to stay with him and Canada were all out for 129. In reply, Canada came out firing with some vicious bowling from both openers who accounted for all 3 wickets thus far. Umar Bhatti bowled tidyily (2 wickets) while Henry Osinde took the attack to the Zimababweans and was rewarded when keeper Hamza Tariq snared an impossible catch (see the video on the Cricket Canada facebook fansite). 	2010-08-02 ICC Intercontinental Canada vs. Zimbabwe Zimbabwe XI visits Maple Leaf Cricket Club starting Monday to take on Canada in Canada's penultimate match in the 2009-2010 Intercontinental Cup. Canada have only 9 points from their 5 matches and are well behind table leaders Scotland but have shown encouraging performances this year. Matches against Scotland and Afghanistan came down to the wire with Canada losing narrowly while the Netherlands with the help of some weather withstood Canada's final push to draw the match. Zimbabwe travel to Canada with the same squad that defeated Netherlands handily last week. For Canada, Ashish Bagai remains out while he rehabilitates his knees but is slated to be back into the side in time for Ireland's visit in September. 	2010-07-27 Surkari Out With Leg Injury Batsmen Zubin Surkari has been ruled out of the remainder of the Caribbean T20 tournament as well as the ICUP match against Zimbabwe with a leg injury. Surkari is expected to be out 10-14 days.
	2010-07-27 British Motoring Festival - Windsor, NS The Nova Scotia Cricket Association was invited to stage a match at the inaugural British Motoring Festival in Windsor, Nova Scotia, on Saturday the 24th August. Halifax Cricket League teams, Halifax Red and Halifax Gold, answered the call and travelled to Windsor to play their scheduled Twenty20 League match on the beautiful grounds of the KIng's-Edgehill School. Some big hitting was on show, in addition to a plethora of fine vintage motor vehicles, much to the delight of the crowd visiting the festival on what was a wonderful summer's day in the Maritimes. Halifax Gold came away with a comfortable 77-run victory having posted 197 all out (19.5 overs) and then dismissing Halifax Red for 120 (15.5 overs). The event was a great success and enjoyed by all players and NSCA officials who attended, with much thanks to the dedicated organizing committee of the British Motoring Festival.
	2010-07-24 Canada vs. Jamaica Canada has suffered another 9 wicket defeat, this time at the hands of Jamaica in the Carribean T20 tournament in Barbados. Losing the toss and batting first, Canada struggled to reach 101 runs and were unable to hold back Xavier Marshall and the rest of the Jamaicans as they cruised to a 9 wicket victory. Tyson Gordon (26) top scored for Canada while Trevin Bastiamillai picked up the sole wicket. Like Thursday, Canadians flocked to CBCSports.ca to watch the Canadian team in action and many were seeing the game and the team for the first time. "Go Canada Go" was a common post on the CBC site as well as on Twitter as Canadians were thrilled to be able to see their team live. Canada's final match of the tournament will be on Wednesday. 	2010-07-22 CBC and WICB go to bat for Cricket Canada The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) will bring Canadian cricket to a national audience after partnering with Cricket Canada and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for the current Caribbean T20 tournament. CBC will live stream Canada?s three games against Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica and the Leeward Islands, plus the tournament?s semi-finals and final. The series will be broadcast on CBCSPORTS.CA from July 22?31. The decision from the Canadian national broadcaster is an indication that major players may be looking to capitalize on the growing domestic audience for a sport that, despite being second only to soccer in terms of worldwide popularity, has until now remained largely in the shadows of Canadian mainstream media. Terry Ludwick, Director of Sports Programming at CBC, comments: ?We?ve been interested for some time in testing the appetite of Canadians for cricket programming, and this looks like a great opportunity. ?By making this tournament available online and giving exposure to the national team, we?re hoping the Canadian public show us they want more.? 	2010-07-22 Canada vs. T&T Trindad cruised to a 9 wicket win in the opening match of the Caribbean T20 tournament in Barbados against Canada. Losing the toss and being set in, Canada started off slow as they got accustomed to the new conditions. The entrance of Geoff Barnett got the innings going and in his typical agressive manor Barnett took the attack to the Trinidad batmen before falling for a well struck 37 from 33 balls including 2 well hit sixes. Rizwan Cheema entered the fray long enough to pelt the biggest 6 of the innings before falling to Dwayne Bravo's sharp fielding. On a day when the ball followed him everywhere, Bravo set a Caribbean T20 record with 4 catches removing Patel, Barnett, Cheema and Gordon. Late cameos from Zubin Surkari (26) who hit some glorious shots off Bravo and Umar Bhatti (17) brought Canada to a fighting 110-8 off 20 overs. 	2010-07-21 Venues Confirmed for Home Series Ireland, the winners of the recent World Cricket League Division 1, Associate Cricket's most prestigious trophy will visit Canada for an Intercontinental Cup and ODI series in September. Cricket Canada and Cricket Ireland confirmed the dates this morning as well as the venue for the matches. Cricket Canada will return to the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club after long absence. Speaking on the ground arrangements Cricket Canada president Ranjit Saini was happy to see both Canada's top facilities get matches this summer. "We are pleased to have concluded productive negotiations with both MLCC (Zimbabwe) and the TCSCC (Ireland). 	2010-07-13 Womens - Canada vs. USA If Canada is going to qualify for the 2013 Women's World Cup, they will have to come from behind against the USA. In the first game of the series the USA rolled to a convincing 112 run victory. Batting first the USA put up an impressive 225-6 from 50 overs. The USA batting was led by Durga Das (53) and Indomatie Goordial-John (83) whose partnership of 92 set the platform for the imposing total. The rest of the USA bastmen were unable to really mount any real answer to the Canadian bowling attack but were helped out by 35 Canadian extras and some intelligent batting around Goordial-John. In reply, Canada was shellshocked by Shondelled Ward (5-20) who knocked out the top 4 batsmen for 12 runs essentially blunting the chase of any Canadian counter attack. Mikaela Turik (40) batted beautifully for Canada but was run-out while in good touch. The two teams clash again tomorrow, a match which Canada must win to keep its world cup dream alive. The tournament will also serve as a backdrop for a fundraiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Breast Cancer Network, both of whom will be receiving signed jerseys from the Canadian team to support fundraising auctions later this year. 	2010-07-10 WCL Div 1 5th Place - Canada vs. Kenya For the second consecutive day Canada has ground out a tough win against a spirited Kenyan side at WCL Division 1. A tough pitch to bat on threw the advantage to Canada's bowlers led by Rizwan Cheema (3-36) which restricted Kenya to 190. Canada's batsmen struggled to make ground losing wickets at regular intervals before Ashish Bagai (39) and Zubin Surkari (49) made a stand to set up the victory. At the end Canada got home with 4 balls to spare as Jimmy Hansra (1-23 and 13*) and Umar Bhatti (2-48 and 8*) saw the team home. A tough tournament comes to and end with two important ODI victories against a team on the Reliance ODI Table salvages some pride and injects some confidence into the Canadian team. The pitches made batting difficult for all the teams and those who showed the ability to graft for their runs ultimately prospered. The Irish were full value for their billing as the top associated, wining with several players away on assignment for most of the tournament. 	2010-07-09 Canada vs. Kenya Canada and Kenya clashed in a battle of winless teams today at WCL Division 1. The dead rubber (both teams had already been relegated to the 5th vs. 6th place match on Saturday) still had a lot at stake for both teams starving for ODI victories this year. Ashish Bagai won the toss and elected to field, a decision that paid off for captain as the bowlers backed him up with a glittering performance. Harvir Baidwan who has been in fine form picked up 3 wickets (bringing his total to 6 in the past 3 games) to lead the Canadian attack. Rizwan Cheema (2-28), Parth Desai (2-33) and Hiral Patel (1-33) joined in on the wicket taking to restrict Kenya to 153. Canada started well before Hiral Patel (18) lost his way which followed with 3 wickets falling in quick succession to leave Canada at 71-4. As he has consistently the skipper guided his team home under difficult conditions. Bagai (61*) continued his fine run of form (392 at an average of 65.33 in his last 8 international matches) and played an evenly paced innings to seal the victory. 	2010-07-09 Deutrom Expresses Concern About ICC Proposal Cricket Ireland CEO Warren Deutrom has outlined his concern at the prospect of the World Cup shrinking again after 2011, after the bleak picture that was painted last week by ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat. The World Cup was reduced from 16 teams in 2007 to 14 next year and Lorgat emerged from the Chief Executives Committee meeting to state that the enlargement of the World Twenty20 and compression of the World Cup is a popular idea among the full members. 	2010-07-07 Canada vs. Ireland Canada turned in perhaps their best bowling and fielding performance of the week today but it was in vain and Canada dropped a 5 wicket contest to the Irish in the Netherlands today. Parth Desai (3-35) was the pick of Canada's bowlers who inspired a mini Irish collapse from 50-0 to 92-5 but Canada were unable to move things along any further as Ireland got home with 11 overs to spare. Earlier in the day, Canada laboured to a score of 154-9 from 50 overs. Winning the toss and batting first, Canada immediately lost the openers and were in a hole at 6-2. Nitish Kumar (38) and Geoff Barnett (26) did rebuild the innings slightly but the Irish spinners strangled the life out of the middle order and restricted Canada to a meagre total. Canada are now resigned to the 5-6th place match where they look to be playing Kenya who have also stuggled to make a mark in this tournament. 	2010-07-05 Canada vs. Netherlands - Bagai plays lone hand in loss Canada has dropped its third straight game at the WCL Division 1 tournament. For the second match in a row, Canada's batsmen were taken out of the game early and unable to overcome the opposition bowling. Defending a meagre total, Canada's bowlers did yeoman's work today with Harvir Baidwan picking up 2-28 but the total of 168 was simply not enough to defend. EArlier in the day, a stunning batting collapse left Canada with lots of work to do in order to salvage today's game against the Netherlands. Winning the toss and batting first, Bagai stroked yet another half century (his 3rd on this tour) but could find little in the way of support from his teammates as Canada slumped to 168. Only Geoff Barnett (34) and Calvert Hooper (27) offered any sort of resistance as Canada's batting folded. Canada has struggled to get any momentum going on tour and while the introduction of fast bowling coach Courtney Walsh, the legendary fast bowler, offered the bowlers a shot in the arm for today's clash, it was simply not enough on the day. 	2010-07-04 National Round Up A busy weekend comes to an end today with cricket happening right across the country. In Montreal, Nova Scotia and Quebec wrap up their weekend series with Nova Scotia. On Saturday, Quebec picked up victories in both T20 matches. In the first match, Quebec's bowlers did the damage knocking back Nova Scotia for 59 runs allowing the batsmen to chase it down in 9 overs. In the second match, Nova Scotia fought back and were in control for parts of the match knocking out the Quebec top order and keeping themselves in the match chasing 154 to win. A good start ramped up the pressure on Quebec before their bowlers got on top finally dismissing Nova Scotia for 93. A 50 over match takes place today at Raymond Park in LaSalle In Vancouver, it will be an all BC final in the John Ross Robertson Competition as both Richmond and Abbotsford scored wins over their Alberta Rivals.
