Full interview with Canada captain Ian Billcliff
How important is the ICC Intercontinental Cup to your team?
Any opportunity we have to play cricket against quality opposition is a great experience for us. Playing in different countries against varied opposition is a very steep learning curve, and what we have experienced so far is that the team that comes to terms with the conditions the quickest and executes their plans efficiently comes out on top. Date Changes in Icup means that Canada will be with out JD
|
|
Due to date changes announced by ICC on November 11, skipper John Davison will not be available to join the Canadian team in UAE for the semi-final match.
As report earlier Davison would have had to return to Hobart Australia immediately following the semi-final. He is due be back in Hobart on the 20th to play a 1 day game versus Tasmania starting on the 21st. With the games push back one day, this makes it impossible for him to return to Australia in time.
The Canadian team who left on Friday November 12, will have only 12 players in UAE as Desmond Chumney pull out due to work commitment. There was not enough time to get a new member on the team

Chumney out and Skipper JD back in.
|
|
Toronto, Ont Oct 29, 2004 - Team Canada with just two weeks to go before the Icup Semi-final match in UAE has lost another one of its key member. Veteran opening batsman Desmond Chumney has informed the CCA that he is unavailable to travel to UAE due to work commitments.
In the same week, skipper JD who had earlier confirm his unavailability has now reconsidered and will be joining the team but for the Semi-final game only. Should Canada qualify Davison will not be there for the final as he has to return to Hobart Australia immediately following the semi-final.
Davison became available after missing out on selection for the 4 day team for South Australia. However, he has to leave the day after the semi-final game to be back in Hobart on the 20th to play a 1 day game versus Tasmania starting on the 21st.
Losing Desmond is a big blow to the team, however having JD return will definitely boost the spirit and moral of the squad and increase Canada?s chances of qualifying for the finals.

Being a perfectionist, Davison was disappointed that Canada didn't win, and in so doing complete its seventh straight victory under his tenure this summer since he replaced Joe Harris as captain earlier this year.

|
CANADA AND BERMUDA HAVE A LONG HISTORY AT CRICKET.
Cricket history between Canada and Bermuda began in 1931 when Ridley College located in St. Catharine, Ontario began sending teams to our Atlantic neighbours. One of the young men in the early Ridley teams was Clarke Bell, a dashing left-hand batsman who was to go on and make his mark in Canadian cricket history. Sadly he was -killed at the Battle of Dieppe in 1942. A few years later in the mid 1930s the legendary Bermuda sportsman W. F. (Chummy) Hayward O.B.E. began bringing his famous Bermuda Wanderers XI to Canada.
Both teams will clash tomorrow at Sunnybrook Park- Toronto. Start time is 10:30am
