20-year-old cricketeer wishes the sport was more popular in North America Monali PatelMonali Patel has put on the black and red uniform so many times she hardly notices the metal bars in front of her face anymore. It's a curious but necessary outfit for the opening batsman and part-time bowler for Canada?s national women's cricket team. "If you wear it for the first time, you're like, 'Oh my gosh, it's so lumpy,'" she says, comparing it to goaltender equipment. "There's a special way of running in it. 2009-04-12 Canada's Women Defeat Trinadad U17s
The Canadian Women's currently attending a training camp in Trinidad in preparation for the ICC Americas Women's tournament to be played in Florida May 17 - 24, 2009, defeated a Trinidad U17 team in their warm up match played at the Sir Frank Worrell Academy grounds in Balmain, Couva. Canada batted first and made 148 for 9 in their 40 overs. Mona Persaud 39, Sheryl Tittlemier 34, Helene Gaffney 10 not out. In reply Trinidad U17, 74 all out. Deshanee Yahathugoda 5 for 19; Helene Gaffeny 2 for 6; Mona Persaud 2 for 10.

The ladies continue to show all round improvement in the field. The work of Coach George Codrington and the assistance of David Turik (A volunteer with the team) over the last 6 days have really paid off. The teams last game will be on Monday prior to their departure back home on Tuesday, 14 April.
